How the Bonus-Malus System Works
How Is Bonus or Malus Applied?
Why Is the Bonus-Malus Class Important?
What is the Bonus-Malus system?
Bonus-Malus is a classification system used by insurance companies in Moldova to adjust RCA premiums based on driving history. Safe drivers earn bonuses (discounts), while drivers with claims receive malus (surcharges).
How is my Bonus-Malus class determined?
Your class is determined by the number of insurance claims filed against your policy. Each claim-free year moves you one class up (bonus), while each claim can move you several classes down (malus).
What is the maximum Bonus-Malus discount?
After several consecutive claim-free years, you can reach the highest bonus class which offers a significant discount on your RCA premium. The exact percentages are set by BNM regulations.
What happens to my class after an accident?
If an insurance claim is filed where you are at fault, your Bonus-Malus class will decrease, resulting in a higher RCA premium at your next renewal. The severity of the drop depends on the number of claims.
What class does a new driver start with?
New drivers in Moldova start at the base class (class 0) with no bonus or malus applied. From there, each claim-free year earns a bonus class upgrade.
